Saturday (or Sunday) Shout Outs for 2024

It’s time to shout it from the rooftops. 2024 is here, and that means we’ve started a new tax season.

Tax seasons share a lot of similarities from year to year.

Most of the forms return, just tweaked a bit by the Internal Revenue Service to reflect any tax law changes and inflation adjustments.

The deadlines, except in extraordinary circumstances like the COVID-19 pandemic, are pretty much the same from year to year.

And here on the ol’ blog, another tax tradition continues. The weekend shout out feature returns for yet another year..

As I’ve been doing for the last six years — something about time, flying, taxes, and fun* — I’m freeing up at least one of my weekend days by posting a Saturday (or Sunday) Shout Out to some other tax items from blogs, traditional or online media outlets, or any other source I happen to have run across the previous week.

The headline’s Saturday or Sunday option allows me to decide which day I choose to post the other tax info if that seems appropriate. But mostly, I do my shouting out on Saturdays. That’s why it’s listed first; that and the alphabet.

As alluded to earlier with the *, the reason for the shouting out is simple. As the years have gone by, I’ve increasingly come to appreciate a bit more time off from everything, including taxes and blogging. This quick posting provides me some of that free time, while also maintaining a way for both you and I to enjoy timely, helpful, interesting, and sometimes amusing tax articles and posts from other bloggers, writers, and the wider tax community (or elsewhere).

OK, I’ve already used up some of my free time, so let’s get down to business.

I’ve jump started this year’s shout collection page by reposting the final shout out of 2023. Now it’s time to get to 2024’s tax sharing and shouting. The first Shout Out of 2024 is indeed on Saturday of the first full weekend of this new year. Enjoy!

You can read more of the whys and wherefores of the Shout Out idea in the original post about the one-weekend-day posts. There you’ll also find all of 2017’s Shout Outs.

And if you interested in who got tax-related hollers in the rest of the last six years, you’ll find them on the 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 pages. Yes, they also have the same megaphone image as this current collection. As the saying goes, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Thanks and I’ll say it again, enjoy your weekends with a little bit of taxes on the side. I know I will!

Hello Tax Season 2026

Happy New Tax Year! Are you ready to file your 2025 tax return? I know, too early to ask. But Tax Day 2026 will be here before we realize it. The Internal Revenue Service deadline to file and pay any tax we owe is the regular April 15 date this year. It’s also Tax Day for most of the states that collect income taxes from their residents, which is most of the states! If that seems too far away right now, don’t worry. As is the case every tax season, the ol’ blog’s tips and other tax reminders should help all of us meet our state and federal responsibilities. Procrastinators also will want to keep an eye on the countdown clock just below. It tracks how much time we have until April’s Tax Day, just in case we put off our annual tax task until the absolutely final hours and decide we need to instead get an extension request into the IRS by that date. (Note: I’m in the Central Time Zone, so adjust accordingly for where you live.)
