Attention, North Carolina shoppers! You won't have to pay state sales tax on certain Energy Star-rated appliances during this weekend's Energy Star sales tax holiday.
The select tax-free shopping began today, Nov. 5, at 12:01 a.m. and is in effect through Sunday, Nov. 7, at 11:59 p.m.
In addition to waiving the Tar Heel State's 5.75 percent sales tax, local sales taxes also are not collected on eligible appliances this weekend.
Energy Star-qualified items covered during the tax holiday include clothes washers, freezers, refrigerators, central air conditioners, room air conditioners, air-source heat pumps, geothermal heat pumps, ceiling fans, dehumidifiers and programmable thermostats.
To be tax-free, the appliance must be bought for personal, not business, use.
But unlike North Carolina's back-to-school tax holiday, there's no price limit or ceiling for purchases to qualify for the no-sales-tax treatment.
